Everything you ever wanted to know about Planet Chicken

Far away and long ago when our founder was in the midst of that place known as Youth and Folly, unworldly yet somehow omniscient, he knew that any man could make their fortune in a few scant years of honest labor. Upon such a vision and with only a few years experience operating a printing press, he began Emerald Printing.

Emerald Printing was founded upon a third party's poor business practices. In a back room of a copy shop in Los Altos, CA., there was some printing equipment, on lease, unused. Recognizing the knock of opportunity, the big F offered to take over the equipment lease and pay some rent on the space the equipment was taking up.

And so Emerald Printing was born and our Grand Fromage discovered the joy of 60-hour work weeks with no overtime pay, no benefits and no appreciation beyond the self-satisfaction of... well... we suppose, a good nights sleep from exhaustion.

Time passed, as it's bound to, and Emerald Printing prospered. Bills were always paid on time and the clientele always left smiling. As business picked up he discovered the joy of an 80-hour week, and learned the trick of running three printing presses at a time. Yikes, talk about burning the midnight oil!

From the outset computers were used in the operations of the business. They were made by a local fruit company and having access to an employee with a discount certainly didn't hurt. Dabbling in degrees with the odd beige box called a Macintosh, Mister Founder discovered that the durn thing was good for more than a conversation piece. He wrote software to handle the shops billing and price quotes for the various, complicated print jobs. He used the first version of Quark Xpress and ended up generated 90% of his typesetting in house, much to the disappointment of the phototypesetters out there. As time progressed he found himself working more with the computer and giving advice to the designers that came into the shop.

During this period, He also discovered the accordion, but that's another story.

After a decade the print shop was sold, the business name was changed from Emerald Printing to Emerald Productions and the whole mess moved to the Missouri Ozarks (the domain name for the print shop was emeraldp.com... which works for both.) Since then He has focused his business practices on Graphics for Print, Web Design and Database programming.

In the year 2000, It decided to change the name of the business to Planet Chicken. He figured that itmight be entertaining to answer the eternal question "What the heck is Planet Chicken!?!" And so it has proven to be.

Planet Chicken continues to prosper. Our clients are all happy and good-looking, and so are the chickens... well except for those turkens... they're kinda funny looking.
